Since time began, the Devil has tried to convince mankind that we are equal to God, that we do not need God or that God does not exist. Mankind has not been guiltless either, always looking for an easier way, following after the flesh and every wind that blows.
Through the wonders of the internet, the world has gotten smaller, and every imagination is now but a keystroke away. What was once obscured by distance can be viewed from anywhere in a split second. Every person has an opinion, and if they wish to share it, regardless of how far-fetched it is, it becomes available to almost every man, woman, and child on the planet.
Concepts that were once unheard of have crept into our daily lives and have become common ideas and even personal philosophies for many. Without even realizing it, many Americans, even “Christians” are bombarded by a blend of Eastern, Norse, Greek, pagan, humanistic and other religious doctrines. Whether we admit it or embrace it, by exposure, we can’t help but be affected by it.
One easy example is “Karma.” I frequently see Christians post about Karma on Facebook as if it’s a Biblical principle. Karma is not biblical and though it seems to closely resemble “reaping what you sow” the actual concept incorporates elements of reincarnation or past existences, which are contrary to the Bible.
Another is “Mother Nature” aka, Gaia from Greek Mythology and other names in various other religions. A seemingly harmless margarine ad from my childhood conditioned a whole generation that “it’s not nice to fool with mother nature.”
Hollywood has been used as a tool to infiltrate our homes and minds and to get us comfortable with other deities, no deity or being our own deity. The enemy wants Confusion to rule of the day.
Televisions were always frowned upon, if not strictly forbidden in most of the assemblies I’ve been a part of in my life. Generally speaking, I agree that there is a lot wrong with television. Television could have been a great learning and teaching tool if utilized correctly, which was likely the intent of the inventors that share credit for televisions existence. One of the main problems with T.V. stems from the content that was allowed and became the norm for television programs. The fact that they are called “Programs” bothers me as well. What are they programming? Our Minds? Our Spirits. Even commercials now promote ideas and lifestyles that were only recently considered taboo.
But in this day, to simply condemn T.V. is pretty much irrelevant. We have moved so far beyond television that it barely warrants a mention.
I heard an advertisement for a marketing group in Dubai whose catchphrase is something like “People don’t go online anymore, they live online.” This is very true. If you don’t believe it, you’re not paying attention, probably too busy looking at your phone. People get their movies, sporting events, music, news, communication, dates, relationships, order their food, pay their bills, and so on without ever looking up from their screen. A lot of people never turn a T.V. on, they get everything on their phone.
So, anyone who condemns Television, but carries a loaded out smartphone is simply missing the point.
Think about it, if I turn on a T.V., whats on is whats on. I can search through the 1200 or so channels and may find something similar to what I want to watch, but what’s there is there. My phone or computer, on the other hand, is limited only by my imagination. If I can think of it, I can find it. It will match me step for step into my darkest, vilest thoughts and perversions.
With the internet in our hands, all day every day we have to be cautious not to accidentally expose ourselves to things that we’d never see on TV. Another aspect of the phones danger is its availability and secrecy. Most people have their T.V. in a prominent place, usually a centerpiece of their living room decor. Our phones go where we go, to the most secluded places like or vehicle, bathrooms, bedrooms, anywhere and everywhere. We are never far from our connection, and we are not as hampered by the stigma of watching something we shouldn’t as we would be on the 52 incher in the living-room. Nobody sees us, nobody but God and Google!
On the other hand, our smartphone can open a wealth of good and almost endless opportunities to minister and be ministered to. It also has the potential to be a new frontier that God can use to spread the Gospel across borders and beyond prison walls. It’s already being used to touch lives and souls. So, I’m not saying we should throw our phones away, and this is not about condoning Television or about condemning cell phones and computers or vice versa.
I am simply stating, with anointing, that we must use whatever filtering process necessary to guard ourselves and our families from the harmful content of these venues. Protect yourself and your family at all cost, the price is too great to be haphazard or lacks about it.
Also, what of the wasted time? What of the distraction from the important things? Even if you are only watching kittens (which I find disturbing in and of itself) the amount of time wasted by most of us, I believe, will have to be accounted for. There’s much to do and little time to accomplish it.
The enemy of our souls wants us to be distracted and confused. The Bible admonishes us to study to show ourselves approved and to seek out our own salvation with fear and trembling. Those things, Seeking and Studying, don’t happen by accident and don’t happen overnight. They take time, dedication, determination and devotion. I am convinced that the world would be a different place if all of us who profess to be Christians actually sought out Salvation to the point of truly Fearing God and Trembling physically and Spiritually before Our Creator and Father.
I don’t want to be preachy or hard and definitely, don’t want to be mean. I just see as I’m sure a lot of others do a world that is distracted and confused. A world that is lost and undone without God. I don’t want to be too confused to be a witness or too distracted to reach out.
God Bless You All Richly,
Greg
